HISTORY AND ART MET IN SULTANAHMET! ART LOVERS GATHERED IN A CERAMICS WORKSHOP
Istanbul’s historic heart, Sultanahmet, hosted a special event on Wednesday, July 29 that brought together distinguished figures from the worlds of art, history, gastronomy and culture. The "Inspired by History, New Brushes" Ceramics Workshop and Sultanahmet Historical Tour offered participants not just a workshop experience but an unforgettable day immersed in the cultural heritage of Istanbul.
Held under the patronage of Gül Şen, President of the Istanbul Association for Culture, Art, Education, Health, Tourism and Solidarity, the event was organized by A.Z Art Academy founder and sculptor/painter Aida Navidi and organizer/producer Ahmet Diyapoğlu, and took place at the historic Hodegon Restaurant in Sultanahmet.
ART MEETS IN A HISTORIC VENUE
The event, held in the area of the Hodegon Monastery—whose history dates back to the Roman Empire—saw participants take part in a ceramic-painting workshop led by Aida Navidi.
In the calming and inspiring atmosphere of art, guests brought their brushes to ceramics and created their own works, crafting one of the day’s most special mementos with their own hands.
Before the workshop, specially prepared dishes were served at Hodegon Restaurant, and the gastronomic experience complemented the event’s art and history concept.
A JOURNEY INTO THE HISTORY OF HODEGON MONASTERY
After the ceramics workshop, participants explored the areas related to the historic Hodegon Monastery and the healing water pool located within it.
The next stop of the event was Sultanahmet Square, one of Istanbul’s most important historic plazas.
On the historical tour led by television travel presenter Ahmet Diyapoğlu, participants were guided through Hagia Sophia, the Sultanahmet Mosque, the Hippodrome, and the surrounding historic structures, with their stories spanning from the past to the present and notable details shared with attendees.
Thus, guests had the opportunity to create their artworks while also witnessing Istanbul’s millennia-old history.
Many notable figures attended the art- and culture-focused event.
Among the attendees were TRNC Istanbul Consul Ülkü Alemdar, Prof. Dr. Asiye Nuhoğlu, influencer Işıl Şahin, Melis Simsar, Nurdan Altınok, Damla Dadgar, Ata Dadgar and Arzu Yasak.
The organization, which brought together guests from different professions and social circles, also paved the way for new friendships and enjoyable conversations centered on culture and art.
SULTANAHMET’S HISTORY IMMORTALIZED IN PICTURES
The day’s special moments were recorded through professional photo and video shoots carried out throughout the event.
The video and photo shoots for the organization were carried out by Bayram Yenice and renowned photographer Abdullah Bozkurt. Many special frames of the day—from the ceramics workshop to the historic site tour, from the discoveries in Sultanahmet Square to the guests’ joyful moments—were captured on camera.

'Inspired by History, New Brushes' went beyond a classic ceramics workshop by bringing art, history, gastronomy and cultural discovery together in a single event.
Shaped by Aida Navidi’s artistic guidance, Ahmet Diyapoğlu’s historical narration and Sultanahmet’s unique atmosphere, the event offered participants the chance to experience Istanbul from a different perspective.
The day began with painting ceramics in a historic venue, continued with the exploration of Hodegon’s past, and concluded with a journey through Istanbul’s history in the incomparable atmosphere of Sultanahmet Square.
'Inspired by History, New Brushes' secured its place in memories as a special gathering where art, inspired by the past, was brought to life anew.
