TURKISH RED CRESCENT ISTANBUL FOUND GOODNESS AT THE ASHURA TABLE
Business, art, political and civil society representatives met at the same table; meaningful support was provided for blood donation
The Turkish Red Crescent Istanbul Branch brought together prominent figures from business, politics, the arts and civil society at its traditional Ashura Day Gathering, held in the spiritual atmosphere of the month of Muharram. The program, held at the Branch headquarters in Altunizade, Istanbul, was attended by a large number of guests, and ashura — a symbol of sharing, solidarity and brotherhood — became the occasion for a heartfelt gathering where hearts united.
During the program guests were offered ashura and sincere conversations were held about the spirit of unity and togetherness during Muharram. Participants were also given comprehensive information about the humanitarian aid activities carried out by the Red Crescent.
“Every Event Is a Link in a Chain of Goodness”
At the end of the program, Turkish Red Crescent Istanbul Branch President Burcu Kösem said that the Red Crescent continues to bring hope to hundreds of thousands of people not only during disaster periods but every day of the year, and stated the following:
“Today, as we share the same table, we are actually growing our shared values. Ashura is the transformation of differences into abundance in the same pot. The Red Crescent represents exactly this; it brings different people together under the common ground of goodness.”
In her speech Kösem drew particular attention to the vital importance of blood donation, reminding that one unit of blood can bring hope to three different people's lives.
Stating that blood services require a great deal of unseen effort, Kösem emphasized that every piece of equipment used in the process — from collection to safe delivery to the patient — carries great importance.
“Goodness is not limited to giving blood alone; every device, every piece of equipment that ensures that blood is stored safely, and every support that ensures this process runs flawlessly also contributes to saving a life.”
Meaningful Support for the Blood Mixing Device
One of the most meaningful moments of the program was an exemplary act of solidarity from the art world.
Artist Aslı Hünel and RS Art Space Founder Filiz Yılmaz made a donation of a blood mixing device to be used in the Turkish Red Crescent's blood services, setting an important example of social responsibility.
These life-saving devices play a critical role in the processing and safe preparation of donated blood under appropriate conditions.
Turkish Red Crescent Istanbul Branch President Burcu Kösem thanked Aslı Hünel and Filiz Yılmaz for their sensitivity and expressed her hope that this meaningful support would set an example for society.
The Table of Goodness Showed the Power of Solidarity Once Again
The Ashura Day Gathering organized by the Turkish Red Crescent Istanbul Branch remained in memories as more than a traditional serving program; it was a meaningful meeting where sharing, volunteerism and social solidarity were strengthened.
Red Crescent Istanbul will continue its efforts resolutely to bring all segments of society together under the same umbrella of goodness, to grow the culture of volunteering, and especially to raise awareness about blood donation.
