The film, shot in Gaziantep and Rumkale, addresses universal issues such as time, memory, the fear of death and the human desire to change the past within a fictional story nourished by the region's history and legends told for centuries.
TEMPUS follows Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Toprak, in the final stage of a terminal illness, who returns to Gaziantep to solve a mystery he witnessed in childhood that has haunted him for 53 years.
A key from the past and a hidden map plunge Ömer Faruk Toprak into a dangerous journey in Rumkale where the boundaries of time and reality are questioned. For the characters who come together with different motives, this journey becomes more than uncovering a secret from the past; it turns into a reckoning in which they must confront their choices and histories.
REAL HISTORY AND FICTION IN THE SAME STORY
TEMPUS's fictional world carries traces from Rumkale's historical atmosphere, the narratives about the region passed down through time, and Antep's recent history.
The legends of John and the Gospel about Rumkale, told for centuries, are among the historical elements that inspire the film's mysterious world. The film also includes scenes that reach into the National Struggle period when the French occupied Antep in 1919.
Traces taken from the region's real history and the legends passed down to the present meet within the film's entirely fictional time story.
TEMPUS does not aim to be a period film that retells historical events. The film builds a world of mystery, adventure and thriller in which reality and fiction intertwine, inspired by real events, tales rooted in the region's memory and Rumkale's mysterious atmosphere.
Rumkale is not used in the film merely as a location that provides impressive images. The structure's historical fabric, its hard-to-reach geography and the sense of mystery it carries become one of the core elements of the story.
“WE WANTED TO TELL A UNIVERSAL STORY FROM OUR OWN GEOGRAPHY”
The film's director and producer Evren Özgür explains the starting point of TEMPUS with these words:
“We created a completely fictional world inspired by the legends told about Rumkale, the region's historical atmosphere and Antep's memory. We did not want to retell history; we wanted to build a new mystery story nourished by it. I care about telling stories that are rooted in our geography and history but do not remain confined to local boundaries. TEMPUS is the result of the idea to produce a film that, rather than repeating familiar narratives, preserves its own identity and can resonate with audiences in different regions.”
The film, which centers on universal themes such as time, memory, the fear of death and the human desire to change the past, aims to open a modest but original space for different narratives in domestic genre cinema with its story originating from Gaziantep.
EXPERIENCED ACTORS IN THE SAME CAST
TEMPUS's cast includes experienced State Theatre actors such as Halil İbrahim Kalaycıoğlu, Melda Arat, Asuman Bora and Erdoğan Aydemir, as well as Şehmus Kartal and Zeynep Reyhan Keskin.
